How to Allow Users to Upload Avatar From Profile Page

In our recent project, the client wanted to have a very simple membership site to allow their product’s stockists to register on their site and a custom page to display all their registered stockists along with their stockists number, phone number as well as their avatar.

For simplicity, we decided to add an upload field form to allow users to upload avatar from profile page. This is much simpler than the conventional way asking the users to register a Gravatar account and upload their image through Gravatar’s website,

Introducing Simple Local Avatars plugin by 10Up.

This plugin has the feature we needed - allowing users to upload their avatar from the dashboard - and it is available for free from WordPress.org plugin repo.

After activation, you’ll see an upload button on the user profiles. Also, there’s a rating system which is similar to Gravatar to rate the image. As the name suggests, all the images or avatars will be uploaded to the ‘upload’ folder where all other media is kept.

    Hey Rudd,

I guess since I don’t have a membership site I’m not sure exactly what all of this would be used for but I do know that when you’re leaving comments in the member area it’s good to see the gravatar. I guess perhaps if they didn’t sign up using the same email that the gravatar might not show so this would be the reason. I’m not surprised to hear that there is a plugin for that too.

Good share and sounds like you were able to resolve that quickly.

Yes, this plugin could be useful if you’ve lots of registered users and tired of having to remind them to register with Gravatar to get their own avatar on your site
