Sneak Peeks of Upcoming Twenty Fourteen Theme

It’s confirmed.

In recent WordCamp SF few weeks ago, Matt Mullenweg announced that the upcoming Twenty Fourteen will be a magazine-style theme, different from any previous themes. The theme probably won’t be released until WordPress 3.8 which is expected to be released this December.

Here are some sneak peeks of this upcoming Twenty Fourteen theme:

Twenty Fourteen was formerly known as Further and was designed by Takashi Irie, code Wrangler at Automattic and few of his teammates. If you’re interested in behind the scene of this theme, you may find them here.

The default theme for 2014 which will be released with WordPress 3.8 will be based on the magazine theme I designed–Further.

As a WordPress theme designer, it was absolutely incredible news for me personally and I’m ridiculously stoked.

It’s a cool idea for the 2014 Theme, but is it practical? Seems like making a niche theme would place limits on who might want to use it. Just my two cents.

I have the same thoughts with Tom.

It looks good but I personally feel it is very related to photography or tumblr type of blogs.

    Nonetheless, nice share mate!

the previous versions of all the default themes of wordpress were not good visually, but this one seem to be different and much better. thanks for letting us know,

PS. got an internal error message on your blog - refreshed and it was gone. still thought to inform you,

    thanks,
    Uttoran Sen,

I honestly like the previous ones better. This one looks more like a news site’s theme. At least the header part. However I like how the posts appear on the front page. Other then that I’m not a huge fan of it.

    Regards,
    Andor Nagy

It seems like a fantastic theme. Visually, with the slideshow or the grid the theme will look alright. But in terms of page speed, will it perform well?
