How to Stop Jetpack from Auto-Activating New Module

jetpack

Let’s be honest. Although Jetpack plugin is developed by the Automattic team and several other developers, it’s not an example of a great plugin. Some people do not want to use it simply because the plugin is too big, contains too much unnecessary modules and force them to connect their site with their WordPress.com.

One other things that some of you might notice is that whenever Jetpack adds a new module, the module will be auto-activated. While this might seems nothing to you, some people have concern that the new module might gives an unwanted behavior to their site. The worse, it might have conflict with other plugin and therefore will cause an issue such as stops plugin from working, break theme and etc.

I just discovered a cool plugin by Mark Jaquith called Manual Control for Jetpack.

The plugin only does one thing. It stops new modules to be auto-activated when Jetpack adds them.

While there’s an article on Jetpack official site about using jetpack_get_default_modules, what the filter does is only disable the activation of current module, not the one that will be added in future.
