How to List Subpages of Current Page in WordPress

WordPress is no longer just a blogging platform. Many companies already use WordPress as CMS to power their site. In today’s tutorial, we’ll show you how to list subpages of current page in your WordPress-powered site.

In some corporate website, you’ll see that they got lots of subpages (or subsections of current page). Take a look at this hierarchical structure of a site:

  • Services
    • Service 1
    • Service 2
    • Service 3
  • Plans
    • Plan 1
    • Plan 2
    • Plan 3

For example, when users are at “Services” page, listing all subpages of this page helps the users to navigate and dig more information from the site.

Introducing BE Subpages Widget, developed by Bill Erickson.

Once activated, simply drag the widget to your Subpages Widget sidebar. It comes with a settings panel to customize the output of the widget. Here’s an example of what you’ll see on your sidebar:

With few lines of CSS, you may customize the appearance of the widget to your liking. To do this, you may use Firebug to inspect the classes that belong to the widget. Currently the plugin also has two filters to help customizing the output of the widget. Please refer to the official plugin page for more info.
