Google Maps is no doubt one of great applications developed by Google. It’s one of the apps that I frequently use and it’s totally free of charge. Many business sites also choose to embed Google Maps to display location of their office, which could be useful so their clients can easily find them.
Previously, we’ve written a tutorial on how to embed Google Maps in any WordPress post and page. However, if you wish to embed the map in any widget location, there’s a better way using Google Maps Widget plugin.
Not only this plugin is very easy to setup and use, it also comes with many great features, giving you the flexibility to customize your map. There’s no settings page. Everything can be setup from the widget panel. Furthermore, unlike most other plugins out there, no API key is required to use this plugin.
To add your map to your site, go to Appearance > Widget and simply drag the Google Maps Widget to any widget location and put your address in the address field. That’s pretty much what you need to do. The map will be displayed as thumbnail on your site and when user clicks on the map, it will be open in a nice lightbox for better view of the map.
In the widget panel, there are other optional settings to allow your choose map type, pin color, pin size and etc. For lightbox map settings, simply open the “Lightbox map” as you can see from the image above.
We love everything about this plugin and absolutely recommend it to our users.
