Last week, we published a simple tutorial on how to add custom background support to any WordPress theme. All you need to do is to add one line of code to your theme’s functions.php
file and you can then set the custom background from Settings > Background.
However, what if you want to use different background for some or all of the posts?
Introducing Custom Background Extended plugin, another cool, free plugin by well-known developer, Justin Tadlock. If you haven’t heard his name before, he’s the man behind one of the best WordPress theme frameworks, Theme Hybrid.
Once you’ve installed the plugin, you’ll see a new Custom Background metabox from your post editor. From this metabox, you can choose a custom color as your custom background or upload an image as background. If you want to use an image as background, there are 4 additional settings to positioning the image, similar to what you can see from Appearance > Background.
Although this plugin is free, it works flawlessly when we tested it on our local development site. We hope this tutorial helped you to set a custom background on per-post basis in WordPress.
