I rarely open 9gag. However, I often see people around me on Facebook (my friends and relatives) sharing funny pictures from 9gag.
How do I know?
Well, it’s very obvious. Every 9gag image will have watermark at the bottom of the image.
When users download a picture from 9gag to their computers, interestingly the image will come with the watermark although you won’t see the watermark on their website. When users post the image to social networks such as Facebook, Twitter etc, non-directly, 9gag will become more popular. People will see more and more picture with 9gag brand on them.
This is a really brilliant marketing strategy to increase their brand awareness!
Luckily, if you’re using WordPress, you can do the same trick.
Introducing Watermark My Image plugin.
Some of the features:
1. You can use your own text for the watermark text.
2. The plugin will automatically add watermark at the bottom of the image. It won’t add watermark over the original image.
3. The watermark can only be added to new uploaded image.
4. Although this plugin will add the watermark to the bottom of the image, it won’t hide it when users are seeing the image on your website. In order to hide the watermark (like 9gag), you’ll need to add some CSS (depending on your theme html, it might be different from theme to theme). Example:
[css].entry img { margin:0 auto -33px;} [/css]
Please read the FAQ page of the plugin for more information.

Unfortunately this plugin fails in one important area. It does not have the ability to hide the watermark it creates. Therefore it is not like a 9GAG watermark.

You just need to apply negative margin to the image. Since every theme use different class, it is not practical for the developer of this plugin to put it in the plugin.
See the example code in the article:
.entry img { margin:0 auto -33px;}
This assume the class of your post is .entry.
